May has come, which means a very special month for many people. In May we celebrate the end of the Second World War. This years’ celebration is unique, because the 70th anniversary. Exactly 70 years ago the period of fascism, hunger, privation, suffer, millions of death ended and peace restored!
Seems to be so long ago, but even in the 21st century there are veterans, who went through an agony of war. There are relatives in many families who were small children and teenagers at that time, but remember the hungry queues, food stamps and expectation with a restless feeling of a death notice…
We bow low to all those, who fought for freedom! Those who were fighting in the line, and those who supported life in home front; your contribution is priceless, your heroism will be remembered for centuries. Thank you!
Some fragments from the workshops, which were held during spring International Contest & Festival AVE BOHEMIA.
In May, all Czech cities decided to lay emphasis on a significances of the anniversary of the Second World Wars end and there will be a range of events dedicated to this celebration.
According to our tradition, let’s have a look what Prague offers to its citizens and visitors.
Under support of Military History Institute in Prague and Prague castle an exhibition called “70th anniversary since the end of World War II” will be open for public. One can visit it from April, 27 till July, 27. As a part of this exhibition visitors can see the World War II with the eyes of Czech photographers: photos from battle-field, from tank cuts, before a battle are exhibited. Most of these photos have never been published.
A unique event is organized by the town hall - catacombs under the Old Town square will be opened for public. Usually, these underground paths are closed, due to a bad technical state and poor lightening, but in rare cases visitors can look into the holy heart of the Old town square, as the square itself has a direct ratio to the events in May 1945.
If you want to visit the catacombs, please book your tickets in advance because a limited number of people will be able to visit the underground.

Jevgenij Vrublevskij, the art director of AVE BOHEMIA festival, shares his impressions from a trip to Novosibirsk to a modern dance contest “Dance Express”: The journey to Siberia - this phrase appeals a lot of emotions and feelings. To be honest it wasn’t an easy road. Despite of mankind achievements, which equipped humans with wings, overcome about 6000 km worth’s respect. The city appeared the next day in the morning. While the weather forecast promised snow break in Siberia this would mean a flood in Europe. Regardless of a bleak weather, a very cordial meeting from Larisa Gorbunova, a founder and the organizer of the festival, presented the whole city (the third biggest in Russia) in a positive way. The program which was waiting for me, was very filled, but we can work with self-denial. The ballet artist knows what I am talking about. There was no time for acclimatization, which I consider good. It feels like to be soused in a cold water - don’t do it steadily. Two contest days, one modern dance workshop, the gala concert of participants and the awarding ceremony were waiting for me. Totally we worked day and night 3 days, 70 groups presented during this period. Meantime, Novosibirsk covered with snow again.
After the contest, time has come to get to know the city and what is more important - its citizens. Such kind of hospitability is hard to find. I was lucky as I got to know wonderful people. We walked in the city together, visited some restaurants, went to Opera and Ballet Theatre (we watched “Spartak” ballet, the audience burst with applauses). Impressions, feelings and emotions were gushing out. We didn’t want to say goodbye, so we promised to meet again. The way home was not that difficult, as I didn’t have time for acclimatization. So I came back to my routine rhythm of life very easily. I was very glad that I travelled there. I certainly recommend to visit this region, as people say, Siberia is even more colorful in summertime.
