The story of Deborah Fox
- a modern day Wonderwoman
She has given hope to those who have none
Who am I and where was I?
My name is Deborah Fox I am a Tram conductor. I have had various occupations in past, have been a nurse, a care assistant, a security guard, worked at McDonalds and worked in admin. I live in Sheffield.
I was 20 stone 7lb before I started my weight loss programme. I am now 15 stone 8 and half pounds.
I am asthmatic and have sleep apnoea (a condition where you get short of breath while sleeping), I used to be on seretide Inhalers, since my practice nurse changed my inhaler to flutiform, I have had to use my ventolin less and it has allowed me to exercise more often. My peak flow used to be as low as 250.
My current peak flow now averages about 400 after the programme I am on.I can walk upstairs at work and up and down tram without getting out of breath.
How my life has changed
It has improved my life vastly. I feel like I have got a second chance and new lease of life. Being that overweight was making my asthma worse but being that out of breath made exercising very hard. It was very much a catch 22 situation, I felt like I was going round in circles and banging my head against a wall.
I have severe polycystic ovarian syndrome, which was causing heavy irregular cycles, I might not bleed for about 3 months, and then in 2012 I bleed for 6 months continuous. They suggested I had a coil, which didn't work at first, so then they added HRT to work alongside it and told me to lose weight and get down to a BMI of 38, my BMI was 43 and they would give me an hysterectomy.
I was already on daily iron tablets to treat the anaemia which was already making me short of breath.Being overweight is a common cause of heavy monthly cycles and really aggravates polycystic ovarian syndrome. Its again a catch 22 situation, due to the insulin resistance in PCOS, a lot of women with it struggle to lose their weight, therefore aggravating their symptoms.
My catch 22
I was in a catch 22. I wanted to lose weight to improve my medical condition but the excess weight made it difficult for me to exercise. My excess weight was making me short of breath, aggravating the asthma, so I couldn’t exercise. I have now been taken off the list for surgery and my doctor could not believe the difference in my weight loss and that was the reason he took me off the list for surgery.
As a former nurse I am aware that with severe asthma and being that overweight I was a surgical and anaesthetic risk, especially also due to my sleep apnoea.
As a former nurse I was only too aware that if I had gone under anaesthesia I could have gone into respiratory arrest and died on the operating table.
Weight loss surgery
I considered weight loss surgery myself in the past, but was told my BMI was not high enough and I did not have enough other contra indicating health conditions such as diabetes. I'm just glad I didn't go through with it as now doing it this way has shown me what a determined person I am and how much willpower I have got. If I had have had it, I think it would just have encouraged me to be lazy.
I had been on the council run exercise on prescription scheme without much success as it only lasts for 12 weeks.
Knowing my personal trainer is the only personal fitness trainer in the North of the UK who is a qualified doctor makes me feel safer and in good hands.
Before exercise I wondered whether I would be able to manage everything.
Now I feel a lot healthier, I can buy smaller clothes and have started wearing dresses.
It has definitely been worth the money. I would definitely recommend others in my position to seek the assistance of James Bond health and fitness.”

Want to work with me or my team but can't afford it? Obesity is a disease of poverty.
One of the most painful things I ever see is when someone comes to see me and needs my help but can't afford it.
By 2020 some 60-70% of the public will be obese. The reason being that more and more people are affected by the number one cause of obesity- poverty. Obesity is not a disease of the rich- it’s a disease of poverty for 7 reasons.
Food that is high in fat and low in nutrition is mass produced and cheap.
Food that is high in nutrition and low in fat is hand produced and expensive. Those on lower incomes cannot afford it.
Generally speaking cash poor people tend to be time poor and so they don't have time to cook fresh food.
Some people out there can only afford to eat one or two meals a day. If that happens then your body thinks nutrition isn't coming regularly will slow down its metabolism and will store as much fat as it can.
People who are in a rush, often wolf their food down quickly so the brain doesn't register it, It take 20 minutes for the brain to register that you have eaten. Such people stuff themselves making the problem worse – its worsened if that food is high fat.
With the greatest respect in the world those who are cash poor can be less well educated and so they may not know what is best nutritionally and we apologize if that causes offence.
Lastly those on lower incomes cannot afford expensive gyms and personal trainers.
