"The tree most pruned bears the best fruit." I didn't come up with that gem but I sure can identify with it. I'm sure you've heard it before too. Today I'd like to focus on what pruning really means. To me, it means that the suffering, tests, and difficulites we go through are necessary for our own growth and perfecting. Just as the tree has to endure the pruning sheers, so we too have to go through our own brand of pruning. The pruning may seem harsh and cruel to the tree at first, but in time that temporary discomfort will allow the tree to grow stronger, to be able to spread it's branches, and to produce an abundance of fruit. Our pruning can strengthen us too, if we accept our personal tests with grace, the right attitude, and with unwavering faith.
We know ultimately that it is our attitudes that determine our outcomes. What matters most is that we never lose hope, for it is "faith that moves mountains." Faith can move mountains of doubt, of fear, of debt, and of disbelief. It doesn't matter what happened in the past, we are in charge of our present and future. Victor Frankel, a holocaust survivor, in 'Man's Search for Meaning' explained that if we lose faith, we're doomed. We must always remember that we are not alone; everyone gets tested. When we encounter tests and difficulites, we can either ignore them, resent them, or face them and learn our lessons so we can move on. Everyday is a new journey. Each day is a chance to start over or finish what we've started. Each day we must answer the question, "What is life at this moment demanding of me?" Then we must respond the right way, with the right attitude, and the right things surely wil come to us in return.
